Chronology of cameras Phot-Office

Traduction par Geoffroy GUILLON

The origins of Phot-Office were the subject of many discussions in the site’s forum. As clearly explained by the user’s manual which was found with this camera, it was a brand of cameras, films and chemical product that were exclusively distributed through pharmacies. My father-in-law, a retired pharmacist, remembers that these products could still be found at the beginning of his career in the 60’s.

The trademark “Phot-Office” was registered at the Greffe du Tribunal de Commerce of the Seine on November the 29th 1933 (n°290107 and 290108), by SA Office Commercial Pharmaceutique, located at 71 rue du Temple, Paris.

Obviously the manufacturer was not OCP. In the present case, the camera was made in Germany. The shape of the bed struts clearly points to Balda’s production in Dresde.

This is a double format camera as it handles both 6x9 and 4.5x6.
